Horrible Bosses 2

Nick, Kurt, and Dale have ditched their old jobs to go into business for themselves. With a product ready for distribution, they think they have it made for a while until their buyer double crosses them. With their business on the edge of oblivion, and no options available, they decide to kidnap the wealthy buyer’s son, and hold him for ransom. Can these three stooges manage to pull it off, or will they lose everything?

I was a huge fan of the first movie, and found it hilarious from start to finish. Horrible Bosses 2 still provided laughs, but not as much as its predecessor. The story isn’t as great as I had hoped, but you can’t expect too much  considering that the filmmaker’s goal is to amuse rather than to captivate. Throughout the movie, I wondered “How stupid are these guys?”, and you will probably wonder the same thing at some point through the movie. While I am a fan of comedic films, I found Horrible Bosses 2 to be kind of dull at certain points in the movie mostly because the story was kind of boring. It wasn’t a horrible movie, but it wasn’t amazing either. It was funny, but not worth the ticket price in my opinion.

BOBCAT RECOMMENDATION:  Horrible Bosses 2 wasn’t as good as the first film, but it was still a funny movie. Despite the story being less than great, the movie still manages to get a chuckle out of you. It’s a buddy flick for sure, so I would recommend seeing it in theaters with your ‘bros’. I wouldn’t recommend or dissuade anyone from seeing this movie in theaters just because most would either love it or hate it, and that depends on the person. If someone asked me what I thought of the film I would respond with, “Eh, it was alright. Some parts were funny”. Take that how you may, and decide for yourself if you want to see it right away or to wait.

Dumb and Dumber To

Harry and Lloyd are back for a new adventure! It’s been 20 years since Aspen, but our protagonists haven’t changed a bit. Recently learning he has a daughter, Harry enlists the help of his best friend, Lloyd, to help him track her down because he needs a donor for a new kidney. These dimwitted pals will have to use what little intelligence they have to accomplish this gigantic task.

Dumb and Dumber To shouldn’t be on anyone’s list for an Oscar. That being said, it’s a funny movie for sure. The humor and dialogue used throughout the movie is pretty low brow, but manages to keep the audience laughing and at least partially engaged to the film. I really didn’t like the movie because I felt it turned away from what made the original film a classic comedy. Dumb and Dumber relied on situational humor, and let the laughs come naturally. The sequel on the other hand employs most of it’s humor from dialogue and witty banter between characters. In my opinion, the sequel tried way too hard and everything was a little too over the top. Maybe it’s not fair to compare the two movies because Dumb and Dumber is such a cult classic and comedic masterpiece, but one can not keep from making the comparison. While I was let down, it was still really funny. I liked it, but it wasn’t all that I hoped it would be.

BOBCAT RECOMMENDATION: The Farrelly Brothers make fantastic movies, but I would recommend waiting for Redbox or Netflix for this one. It’s funny without a doubt, but the story kind of stinks and that partially dilutes the laughs. I felt the movie tried too hard to be funny, and didn’t pull me in like the first film, so don’t get your hopes up. If you’re not doing anything, and it’s on Netflix I would give it a try though because it is not completely stupid, just a little dumb.

Get the most out of your television watching experience!

Recently, my friend said he didn’t enjoy watching television. I was appalled and considered slapping him in the face. This story is made up, but that’s mostly because I don’t have friends (just kidding, I do). Many in our society today, though, prefer other activities to watching television. Shocking, isn’t it? Personally, I chalk that up to poor television watching techniques, so here’s some tips to get the most out of watching T.V. which isn’t a whole lot, but you get the point.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

First it’s good to have a television. If you don’t then viewing your favorite T.V. shows might prove difficult. Second, you should be comfortable because if you’re not then you might want to do something else. Hopefully nothing productive though.

Continuing, you should make sure to have snacks within reaching distance. It can a big snack or a small snack, a plate of cheese-sticks or a plate of carrots, or an actual meal if you’re really hungry. If you’re eating, then you need something to drink. It would be a shame to get up in the middle of Breaking Bad to get a glass of water because you wanted to munch on a bag of Lays, the driest chip known to man, and didn’t bring anything to drink to the couch.

Lastly, it’s good to have a smartphone or laptop nearby to tweet about what you’re watching. Is it really good, did it blow you away, or did it suck? Did it suck so bad that we should watch it like Sharknado? Make sure to let your followers know!

This post isn’t suppose to be serious, but I think people should have fun when watching television or at least get the most out of the experience. If watching television has been so bad for you that you’ve been driven to read a book, then maybe this post will help. If you like to read more than watch television or movies then congrats because you’re better than me which isn’t much but it’s something.

Big Hero Six

In the futuristic city of San Fransokyo technology rules. Hiro is a child genius and bot fighter who must stop a masked villain from destroying the city with stolen micro bots. Along with his brother’s robot Baymax, and the help of his  friends they must become the heroes the city needs.

This should be a relatively short review. While the movie has a high rating amongst other websites, I believe it was good but not super great. I would give it a B rating if it was in my class. Don’t expect too much out of this movie. It wasn’t as funny as I expected from the trailer, but there was some really hilarious parts I really enjoyed. I honestly think the high ratings and critic acclaim built this movie up too much for me. It’s definitely a children’s movie, but Big Hero Six can be enjoyable for adults and teens as well.

  • Fun.
  • Funny.
  • Action.
  • Excellent job from the animation team.

  • None really. It was good, but I expected it to be amazing so naturally I was let down a little. Great movie though when I look back on it.

BOBCAT RECOMMENDATION: Good movie, but don’t expect too much. Little kids would love it for sure since it’s action packed, a little funny, and has superheros.

Due to environmental changes, Earth is slowing losing oxygen and a strain of crop disease is destroying the world’s ability to make food. In the next couple of years, everyone on Earth will die from starvation, suffocation, or both. Cooper is a former engineer and fighter pilot who has given up on his dreams to be a farmer like everyone else to provide for his children. Stumbling upon a secret NASA mission, Cooper is given the assignment to lead a team to search for a habitable planet out in space. Will Cooper be able to leave his family to save mankind, will there be a new home in the stars for humans, and if Copper finds a possible planet will there be an Earth to go back to?

Christopher Nolan has done it again! This movie is visually striking, futuristic, and will have you talking with all your friends about it’s major plot points for days after you see it. I thought it was just a space exploration adventure film until midway through when everything tied together and I was thoroughly confused from that point on. Just know that everything about the film is amazing except you’re probably going to have to go online for an explanation of the ending. Remember that this movie is from the same director of Inception and Memento, so if you’re like me prepare to feel stupid. Good movie though!

BOBCAT RECOMMENDATION: I really enjoyed it although it was confusing, but once it was explained to me and I thought about it I felt better. Go see it in theaters because everyone’s going to be talking about it. Pee before the movie because Interstellar is about three hours long, but there’s never a dull moment. I really enjoyed it, and I highly recommend it!

Lou Bloom is a eccentric thief seeking a real job where he can grow it into a career. He’s driven, focused, and willing to do anything. After witnessing a car crash being filmed by cameramen, he learns about the disturbing business of “nightcrawling”. Night-crawlers film accidents, crimes, and disasters  and sell the film to television news programs who break the story. Intrigued and armed with a camera, Lou tries to break into the industry no matter the cost.

Nightcrawler was a great film, but it wasn’t what I expected. I assumed it was more of a mystery/suspense crime thriller, but in fact I would label this as more of a psychological thriller/drama. It’s disturbing no doubt, and it’s a thriller, but there’s no mystery to it. I went into the theater expecting something totally different than what I viewed, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a great film. That being said, I enjoyed the movie, and it was worth watching. Jake Gyllenhaal is terrific, and his performance as his character of Lou is mind-blowing. There’s some seat grabbing moments, and the film does an excellent job drawing you into the movie.

  • Jake Gyllenhaal portrays Lou Bloom perfectly.
  • The film is completely different from anything else out now.
  •  Dialogue between characters in well written.
  • Good thrills throughout.

  • You already know who’s the bad guy from the opening scene.
  • Lou’s character is almost more important to take note of than the actual plot.
  • Just different from what I expected (personal issue).

BOBCAT RECOMMENDATION: I would wait for this movie to come out on DVD or Redbox rather than seeing it in theaters. Honestly, it just depends on what type of person you are. There’s less action/suspense and more “wow this guy is messed up”. If you like movie where there’s a complex or intriguing character than I would recommend this movie. I would advise movie lovers to see it because its a great movie, but maybe not in theaters considering all the great movies coming out next week. It’s a good movie; it’s just different. Not a bad thing.

John Wick

A group of Russian mobsters broke into a man’s home, stole his car, and killed his dog. What they didn’t know was that the dog was a gift to the man from his wife before she died. The Russian mobsters don’t know who this man is that they wronged, but they will soon find out. John Wick is coming to get them all, and he’s not happy.

This movie will blow you away!!! It’s so B.A. and full of mystery, stylized action sequences, and there’s never a dull moment. Some movies struggle to find out what they want to project. John Wick is not that type of movie. It’s a action packed thrill fest, and it doesn’t try to be something it’s not. It’s an action movie, so there’s a lot of action, violence, and bad guys getting hurt. Keanu Reeves

is the perfect person to play this role, and he nails it perfectly. Words can’t describe how much I loved this movie. Imagine a redefined, less terrible, and cooler version of The Punisher. Same basic theme: bad guys mess with the wrong person, and he takes revenge. Trust me, if you like action movies this is the movie to see.

  • Surprised me in a good way.
  • The movie builds up the legend surrounding who John Wick is.
  • Action throughout. There’s probably five minutes in the movie without someone getting killed.
  • Stylized action. Imagine less Commando, but more Kill Bill. (Lot’s of hand to hand fighting).
  • Keanu Reeves is Keanu Reeves aka awesome.
  • It’s just B.A.

  • Kind of cheesy, but in a good way that benefits the movie.

BOBCAT RECOMMENDATION: If I wasn’t a broke college student, I would see this movie at least two more times in theaters. If you like action movies, don’t sleep on this movie and don’t wait for it to come out on DVD. It’s sooooo good. GO SEE IT!!
